Mission :

Reporting into the Managing Director Planning and Engineering, leads & manages a local and/or remote team with responsibility for planning and engineering for an assigned site/region.

Includes identification, and/or evaluation & implementation of diverse opportunities to expand services/coverage (new site openings/development, realizing opportunities from flight changes etc), and/or development of opportunities/solutions to achieve significant productivity/ performance improvements (process re-engineering, best practices, cross border synergies etc).

Involves gaining commitment to solutions, leading/ supporting key projects that involve cross functional Teams, ensuring solutions deliver the optimum business results whilst complying with regulatory & safety requirements

  • Provides leadership & direction to a team to the achievement of the required results.
  • Uses effective processes & tools as a framework for achieving optimum people performance. Secures appropriate resources to enable the Team to consistently deliver creative, realistic & legal solutions/services that support the evolving business needs.
  • Contributes to the identification and development of regional strategic & tactical plans that are aligned with divisional/corporate strategies, facilitating or leading the process as required. Includes using appropriate methods to challenge business thinking, leverage creativity in order to generate and develop innovative & realistic proposals. Uses the process to focus on potential opportunities and/or to tackle and resolve challenges.
  • Leads cross functional teams relating to profit initiatives and Regional Business Case development to assure that high level initiatives are supported by appropriate engineering rationale. Participates in external organizations/committees in order to influence current & future legislation that impacts TNT/FedEx (customs, transportation, environment etc).
  • Aligns to develop concepts, tactics & plans relating to business expansions which includes developing & promoting recommendations regarding key determinants.
  • Leads/participates in key initiatives to evaluate service gaps/new products. Includes leading key parts of projects (analysis & evaluation of business/market factors, identification & development of engineering solutions, working practices, operating plans etc).
  • Initiates and/or leads projects to improve capabilities by re-engineering key parts of the operation (re-location of specific functions, process re-engineering including outsourcing, maximizing sort capacity etc). Includes using appropriate methods & tools to develop & secure approval for innovative, robust & cost effective solutions that meet the immediate & longer-term business goals.
  • Manages the implementation of relevant parts of the approved solution within agreed parameters & in compliance with all relevant regulatory & legislative requirements.
  • Challenges include maintaining service levels throughout the project lifecycle, best use of existing leases and/or equipment, costs & time involved, loss of synergies etc.
  • Maintains accurate & realistic plans that ensure the operation is effectively prepared to accommodate changes relating to volumes, business expansions, new services, regulatory requirements, technology etc.
  • Ensures the development of realistic forecasts (e.g. Volumes, GSE, forklifts, crew vans, resources, sort equipment, headcount etc), including appropriate costing, based on effective analysis & evaluation of multiple factors. Secures commitment to potential changes to the plan & ensures the incorporation of approved factors.
  • Evaluates ongoing changes (new flights, cut off times, Corporate or EU business changes/projects etc), or externally (new service offering from a competitor, new technology or regulatory change etc) that impact the operation. Involves relevant areas to ensure a realistic analysis & evaluation of gaps/opportunities & development of appropriate business recommendations.
  • Supports the MD/VP Team by leading the development of robust solutions to ad-hoc problems, which can be high focus/high impact for the region. Includes chairing cross-functional groups and task-forces and co-ordination of corrective actions, facilitating cross-department agreement through the evaluation of objective criteria.
  • Participates in defined change initiatives in order to develop the most effective & efficient solution for the business. Ensures effective evaluation of the change criteria & identification & exploration of potential solutions
  • Manages departmental & project budgets ensuring all costs are reviewed & controlled within defined parameters. Focuses on providing commercially sound business advice relating to all operational capital expenditure & realization of revenue opportunities.
  • Leads the development of robust & effective operational methods and practices conducting regular and systematic audits to identify compliance issues & further improvement opportunities. Ensures compliance with required standards.
  • Develops & maintains an expert knowledge of the TNT/FedEx business (strategies, divisional goals, operations, processes, System Form etc) together with knowledge of the business environment (competitor service and capabilities, economic, regulatory etc) and engineering concepts, methodologies & tools.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert for the business working with external bodies (industry, political or regulatory etc) to influence decisions. Provides advice & support for cross-functional projects including interpretation of business rules & overall business capabilities. Benchmarks with peers & ensures the team provide similar support relating to their own responsibility area.

Profile :

  • University degree or Professional qualification in Business/Economics/Statistics or relevant quantitative discipline
  • In depth knowledge of engineering methodologies, practices & tools including experience of using these to deliver significant efficiencies in a complex operational environment
  • Excellent process orientation with experience of engineering processes & developing & implementing simplifications & enhancements
  • Good understanding of the macro business environment eg competitor, economic, regulatory, together with an excellent understanding how a large business operates eg development of strategies & tactics, decision making processes, inter-dependencies etc
  • Conceptual/innovative thinker with the ability to determine new solutions to complex challenges
  • Excellent judgement & reasoning skills with substantial experience of interpreting complex financial & business related proposals/ requirements
  • Excellent planning & organizational skills with substantial experience of leading/managing complex/cross functional processes/projects
  • Excellent process orientation with experience of engineering processes & developing & implementing simplifications & enhancements
  • Good understanding of business IT software/systems capabilities
  • Excellent analytical skills with experience of evaluating complex qualitative & quantitative analysis & drawing valid conclusions
  • Excellent problem solving skills with experience of developing & implementing business focused solutions to complex /high impact business situations
  • Excellent presentation skills with experience of preparing, presenting & justifying business cases to Senior Management level audiences
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interacting with different levels of Management/Professionals
  • Excellent persuasion & influencing skills with experience of gaining commitment to significant change initiatives
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills in French/English
